Reflections

Greetings All:
2023 made eighty years of service and support! The year started out with hope, ideas, and projects that would involve the community in various aspects of giving back to the community, providing additional services as the need presented itself. Through partnerships with so many organizations and churches in the community, we were able to serve so many families.

January: We held our first Clothes and Household goods giveaway and served approximately 104 families.

February: Our Annual Black History program which was held at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. Our featured attraction for the event was the Spelman College Glee Club and several local talents. Fox 5's Christine Sperow was the Mistress of Ceremony.

Also, Groveway’s, “Telling Our Story Program” was held at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, the oldest black church in Roswell and narrated by Tracye Hutchins of CBS. Approximately 120 people attended with over 100 viewers streaming just to hear our story. What a blessing!!!

March: Another clothing giveaway was held and almost 70 families were served!

April: In April, we took the time to volunteer and clean up Pleasant Hill Historical Cemetery.

May: We held another successful clothing giveaway serving 45 families.

June: We held our first Homeownership Seminar serving 20 people. This partnership with Big Mortgage, spearheaded by Zalaria Anderson, has set the precedent for yet another way to service our community.

We also had 2 college students volunteering in the office 3 days a week and another volunteer as needed.

August: We held our annual Community Day in the Park and over 150 adults and children were playing games, winning prizes, enjoying good food, and relaxing before diving into the new school year.

September: We had another clothing giveaway and serving 40 families, partnered with Playwellness and Aetna for a Fall Festival serving and feeding over 100 families.

October: BIG month! Celebrated 80 years of service to the community with our annual Anniversary/Scholarship Banquet held at the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, Ga. We were blessed to be able to award $3,500 to 3 students. It was a beautiful event with a string quartet from Centennial High School, a photographer, a DJ, a singer, and a host of friends and supporters.

GCG held our inaugural Golf Tournament!! We hosted 79 golfers and volunteers to make the event run smoothly.

November: GCG held an appreciation Open House event for all of our supporters.

“Falling In Love with Groveway” was the theme. Over 100 sponsors and volunteers signed in.

December: GCG mailed Christmas cards to those that are on the sick list, members, sponsors, our volunteers, and our friends. We had the opportunity to bless several families with essential items, food, and toys for the children.

Each month we mail cards of encouragement and monthly devotional books to seniors, the Groveway’s sick list and those who might just need a word of encouragement.

Our organization has been truly blessed that we were able to continue our motto “If We Can Help Somebody” during these uncertain times. It is not how much you give, but how much you reach out from the heart to let others know you care.

We are looking for younger adults that are committed and passionate about serving others. Check us out on Facebook or Groveway’s web page, we would love to have you on our team. We meet monthly on the first Saturday.

Groveway will continue to grow and serve our community. Groveway has held on to those things that will always connect us. We will keep the vision and not let go of our mission of helping others.

Thanks to all that have supported us financially, with your prayers and through participation. To the members: I am greatly appreciative for your sacrifices that you continue to make to Groveway Community Group.
